Dear Fellow Rotarians,
Rotary International President W. L. “Bill” Boyd’s theme for the 2006-07 Rotary year, Lead the Way, reflects his belief that Rotarians can change the world. President Boyd has proclaimed that, “Together 1.2 million Rotarians will Lead the Way to a brighter future through fellowship and service. Today’s world needs heroes, not celebrities. All of us in Rotary are ordinary people, with busy lives striving to do 0ur best. Quiet!y, in thousands of different ways, we are working to make the world a better, healthier, and safer place.”
I believe strongly that the hundreds of Rotarians in our 35 Rotary Clubs can make western Nebraska a better, healthier, and safer place. Rotary clubs from O’Neill to Chadron and from Imperial to Hastings make a big difference in their communities, their schools, and most importantly the lives of the Rotarians and their families. Rotary makes a difference in Nebraska and the world.
As President Boyd says, Rotary is so much more than the sum of its parts. Every program of Rotary – the club and district activities, the scholarships and exchanges, and the vast and varied humanitarian projects – serves a different purpose. No two clubs are alike, but together Rotary leads the way as a powerful force for progress, peace and understanding.
Our western Nebraska District 5630 will continue to Lead the Way as we serve our communities, our clubs, our vocations and our world. We will also support President Boyd’s efforts in water management, literacy, health and hunger, and the family of Rotary as emphases for 2006-07. I encourage each club throughout District to focus on one of these areas in their community or as part of a World Community Service project. By dealing with the real challenges facing our communities and the world our Rotary clubs can make their communities and the world a better place to live.
In February and March of 2007 our district will host a Group Study Exchange team from northern India and send a group of our young leaders to visit them in one of the most exotic and exciting areas in the world. These People to People exchanges are our best opportunity to bring peace and understanding to the world. Plan to sponsor a team member from your community. Plan to host the Northern India team.
District 5630 will have very achievable goals for 2006 -2007:
- Each club have a positive membership increase.
- Each club appoint a Rotary Youth Exchange Officer, a Rotary Foundation Chair, and a Rotary Public Relations Chair.
- Each club set a Rotary Foundation giving goal.
- Each club qualify for the Presidential Citation.
- Achieve Rotary Youth Exchange certification including incorporation of the District.
- Recruit a new director for RYLA
Together, Western Nebraska will Lead the Way to even greater successes. And as RI President Bill Boyd says, ”As Rotarians, we know that it is not enough to dream about a better world. A better world will only come through careful planning, honest cooperation, and hard work. As Rotations, we will not just wait for it to happen.”
Kind regard,
Cloyd Clark
District 5630 Governor, 2006 – 07
