Tom was born in Sherman, Texas while his father was in the Army Air Corp. After his father’s discharge the family moved to Leigh, NE, Tom’s father’s hometown. Tom’s father worked with the Minneapolis Moline Co and the family lived in several communities in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Iowa. Tom graduated from Des Moines Roosevelt High School in 1963. Upon graduation he joined the USAF and after his discharge in 1967 he attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Tom started his business career in 1970. With his two brothers he formed Mortimer Equipment Company, a manufacturer’s representative company which sold short line farm equipment to implement dealers in South Dakota and Nebraska. In 1977 he purchased the International Harvester dealership in St. Paul, Nebraska and operated the business until 1985. He then started his own insurance agency with Farm Bureau Financial Services. His firm, TRM Insurance, Inc., is a multi-line agency selling life, health, commercial, farm and personal line product. He has received many honors with the company and is a lifetime member of their Hall of Fame, which recognizes individual agents for leading the company in production for a minimum of 10 years.
Tom has been a member of the St. Paul Rotary club since 1989 and served as club president in 95-96. Tom and Sheryl have attended 8 Rotary International Conventions and he has volunteered as Sergeant of Arms during 5 conventions. They are the District 5630 co-chairs for Friendship Exchange and Tom has been assistant governor of our district for three years.
Tom and Sheryl have been married since 1999. They have six children, sixteen grandchildren, and one great grandchild. They also have a home in Sun City West, AZ, and enjoy as much time there as possible. Sheryl has visited many clubs in the Phoenix area and feels that the clubs in 5630 are the best!
