Bob was raised 20 miles west of New York City, graduating from Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School, NJ. He received a B.A. degree in Political Science (organizational development) and Sociology (group behavior) from Hastings College, Hastings, NE. He had an opportunity to study at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark (social change in socialist governments), perused a partial MBA study with Univ. of Nebraska extension program at Offutt Air Force Base, and was a participant and instructor in numerous corporate and business-related classes.
After college Bob joined the Air Force where he served in numerous assignments both in the U.S. and abroad. During his time in the Air Force, he served as a management analyst in the intelligence area.
After service in the Air Force, Bob joined Xerox Corporation, where he was an executive working in Xerox’ Pare Labs, Palo Alto. Here he was involved in the worldwide marketing/sales of various technologies, new-for-the-day, such as the first PC, Ethernet technologies, laser printing, and even the first computer mouse. Bob continued his technology career as an executive with Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) and Nortel Telecommunications.
Bob joined Rotary in 2013 in Alma, NE, where he served as President 2014-2015. He was a member of the District Grants Committee, RYLA Committee, and PETS training facilitator, Presidential Panel Member and served as Membership Extension Chair/Visioning for the District in 2018-2019. He is a Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Outside of Rotary, Bob is currently on the Foundation Committee of Harlan County Health Systems, serving as Vice Chairman. He is an avid photographer not only for the Rotary Club and District and also documents he and his wife’s many travels around the U.S. and abroad.
Bob is married to Sonja, who is a retired music educator and professional pipe organist. They have two children, a daughter serving as a diplomat in Zimbabwe, and a son who is a music educator, near Dallas, TX. Bob and Sonja have two grandchildren living in Zimbabwe.
